In Suffolk when you call 911 on a cell phone it goes to FRES IN Yaphank then they either call the dept or activate them.
IT does identify the dept on the screen and PD hits the button transferring the call to the PSAP

Volffemt: ESU is right. The E-911 ALI screens only work on calls from hard-wired phones. No sooner did this system solve problems with callers in the early 1990's, when the cell phone "explosion' started. Today, probably 50% of 911 calls come from cell phones.

bearcat, I don't know if you know how the E911 system works. When you dial 911, the screen already tells what fire, primary & secondary ems and PD dist you are in. The calls don't get transfered based on what town the caller says their in. Maybe he does not...but I do...and FACT it will say what Fire it is...but in the COUNTY CODE...like 61 for EAST MEADOW but the village town will be LEVITTOWN....and they do get switched in by town name.....schoolhouse lane gets switched in 10pm on a monday night...because it says Levittown, primary ambulance after 7pm.......right...but wrong EAST MEADOW FD area....14a is primary.....this happens already...at least the firecom opp sees the # code and says right away..."pd is primary East Meadow FD....for this to work the 911 opp.s would have to learn all the FD codes as the Firecom opp.s do. How smooth do you think this will work out........

How smooth do you think this will work out........ I know that Nassau the FD # comes up, like "31" for Inwood, in Suffolk the FD name and EMS name will come up, like Commack Fire, Commack EMS. I work in a Suffolk Co. E911 PSAP, I don't know too much about Nassau, but in Suffolk the cell E911 calls don't "all" go to FRES. Babylon Central, Smithtown, Southold, Riverhead, and the Hamptons etc...do get 911 cell calls direct. It depends on what dist the cell tower is in, if a cell tower is in Nesconset, the call will go to SCPD then to Smithtown FD. They've been trying to work it in, where the nearest 2 or 3 cell towers triangulate your position and give it to the appropiate 911 center. This way, cell calls in Conneticut - hitting L.I. towers don't go to Suffolk County PD.
