Since I live in the 9th Batt area, and monitor the neighboring area it seems the best ones are in the 6th. Granted these guys have been on the radio ever since i purchased a scanner in 78..but Roger from Wantagh, Bill from North Bellmore, and Kevin from Massapequa, they are super under pressure...we also have good ones in the 9th..but i dont know there names.

The Northern Bellmore "650" have to be the Best - They also make the most money per hour - If you look at the how much money those fire departments pay for there dispatching service you would think they also wash all the chiefs trucks and take out the garbage for all the districts they transmitt for. Take the total that each fire district pays and divide it by the 4-6 guys that work there - they must get at least $ 60 per hour. Must have a good pension program too. - they could also make min wage while the commissioners make money ? dispatcher 19 in suffolk rocks - beats them all !

This addressed to the person who asked the original question, can you please clarify "best". So far all I see is the buffiest dispatchers and peoples opinions of what exactly they THINK best is. By the way, there was NEVER a dispatcher named Bill from NORTH (not Northern) Bellmore. Tomko after he moved, was heard from a few times but in recent years has practically disappeared. I know a few people that went out there on vacation and tried to contact him with no answers. And rating dispatchers how their bosses charge for their services. Where do you guys come up with this crap? With that kind of thinking all the staff at Fire Com would be the absolute worst since the County isn't allowed to charge for services provided by Fire Com.

Oh, Sorry " North " Bellmore - your right, the best dispatchers are the ones you never hear or hear very little from - direct and to the point. - 30 from Nassau County Fire seems to be one of the best.

A good disp in my opinion is calm and gives you important info without haveing to ask for it, doesn't give you an attitude when you ask for info. FC #44 was on the other night, i gave a 21 to an alarm, he informed be the rescue and chief were out on M/A, when i requested M/A for our assignment from several agencies, he carried them out and informed me my requests have been complied with. Some disp its like pulling teeth to get info or you get an attitude!

Hey grumpy
There is no need to tell the chief that his requests are being complied with. If you ask a dispatcher to do something consider it done unless you hear otherwise. To tell the chief that 27e is notified after the chief asks you to notify 27e is pointless and ties up the radio especially during a working fire.

Only if there was a problem getting what you wanted should a Dispatcher go back and tell you that. As a Chief or Offficer you make the request and when the Dispatcher says 23 or 10-4....case closed.....do you need a response from your Engine crew after you tell them to hit a hydrant and stretch a line?? Picture that waste of airtime..."Chief we hit the hydrant and stretched the line to the #2 side ..." Waste if time.

Very well said - ladder 47 - Seems like the larger dispatch centers like Suffolk and Nassau have this in hand, with a few rebels exceptions like 44, 30 from Nassau and 26 from Suffolk. - OP 49 always sounds like someone is bothering him ? "Stop the Air Time Waste"

By no means am I the best. If it is important you will know about it. If it is not important or does not pertain to the call you will not get it. If you ask for something it will be done right away if there is a problem you will know about it if there is no problem then just be assured that it is done. The bottom line is that there are too many people on the air stepping on one another and I just rather not be part of the problem.
