There was an open mic on 46.10 for a few hours Wednesday evening. Anyone who owns a radio that has an external antenna would have picked it up. Depending where you are it could have been picked up by a hand held with an indoor antenna. All your points on what can cause interference are correct but as for Wednesday evening it was all over the county, wasn't' just something near him.

i think it was an open mic from firecom. it happened right after they activated roslyn. my pager was in my car and i picked up the signal from the roslyn area all the way home to the merrick area. a strong signal like that, prob firecom

IT WAS NOT FIRE COM! You would have heard voices if it was there. Five people on a shift, would not have sounded that quiet. Roslyns tones come out of Roslyn.

OK! i "thought" it might have been. No big deal Tarzan. FYI, only roslyn's return tones come from roslyn, everything else comes from firecoms sea cliff transmitter site when they get activated

GENERAL UPDATE: The Alpha-Tag feature for the Live Scanner Feed of Nassau Fire & EMS is WORKING & IN SERVICE at this time. This feature ONLY works if you're listening to the feed with WINAMP (Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, etc. don't work with Alpha-Tag). You will notice that while the scanner is scanning and no one is talking, the Alpha-Tag will constantly be changing through the scan list. It is only once you hear audio, the respective Alpha-Tag will display for that FD. Enjoy!

good job man....looks good
Can you change the buffer size to eliminate the delay?
|
|
|
Post by NoSho Buff on Mar 20, 2006 9:20:18 GMT -5
I dont think it's possible unless someone knows it can be done..........Mostly all live feeds that I know of have a 3-5 second delay.

|
Post by FireRunt on Mar 20, 2006 10:03:35 GMT -5
it can be done....you have to eliminate the buffer all together. You might get a streaming error if your computer is not fast enough to output the information to the server. Give it a shot see what happens.

Delay on these feeds are minimal.
NoSho cloned my setup, for his setup. (Alpha tags are cool) My delay ranges from anywhere to 2 seconds to about 4 seconds.
To see what factors add to delay, I logged in via a local LAN, an outside broadband connection, and a GPRS session (GSM Data card). Dealy on the two LAN setups were in the 2 - 3 second range. Delay on the GRPS was only another second.
I have users loged into my setup just about all day long, and so far, no complaints about lag time.
now for my next project...... any one know PHP?

GENERAL UPDATE: The Alpha Tagging feature of the Live Feed will not only work for WinAmp but for iTunes as well for those who use that too. I will update when the feature works for Windows Media Player & RealPlayer.

The feature will not work for WE. If you get the Realplayer working, let me know

Actually, I stand corrected. You can do alpha tagging via WE, but when I set it up on my system, the lag was about 25 seconds.
Thats when you have to ask if its worth it. That, and its a resource pig.

Sorry for any inconvenience of the Live Scanner Feed for Nassau Fire/EMS being down today. It was due to a problem I have with a program called Simplecast. It's up & running now so log on. For future purposes, if anyone detects a problem with getting onto the Live Feed just let me know. Stay safe & keep it rugged!

My Live Nassau Fire & EMS Scanner Feed is temporarily o/o/s until further notice. I've been having computer problems with this damn system & my memory space is not big enough so the system keeps shutting down. I'll post back when I bring it back online.

Y'all are welcome over at my place if you want. I've made a few changes, and I also have a 2nd feed up and running. SCFD Feed should be up this summer... Maybe I'll be extra nice and add a SCFD Feed 'West' if the demand is high enough. www.w2lie.net
