FDNY was taking resumes for provisional dispatchers, from what I hear their current list is depleated. I read somewhere that if you have 3yrs of experience as a volunteer FF then you meet the requirements. Sounds like a good place to start.

Commack Ambulance has p/t positions available 13/hour to start up to 15/hour. You must be a emt/emd'er and lite cleaning.
Suffolk County has the ok for 3 more positions some time this year and then the list will be expired. Setauket and North Patchogue also hire from this list and a new test should be early next year.

FDNY is always excepting resumes for dispatchers, there will be a Civil Service test sometime at the end of this year. There was a posting in The Chief a few weeks ago regarding filing for the test but that was false, as of now there is no filing. They just hired 16 new dispatchers.

I hear that everytime the FDNY establishes a list for dispatcher it is already used up once they make the provisional dispatchers permenant. Why are they having so much trouble getting dispatchers

The biggest issue is the residency bill...it is currently on Gov Pataki's desk to sign the "hard to fill" bill due to the residency requirement of living inside the 5 boros. I think, along with many others if the Governor signs this bill the job would be more appealing to those living outside the 5 boros.

I agree but the problem is that this has past the senate and assembly three times and three times the Gov has veto the bill

Well anyone interested in the FDNY dispatchers job should just submit a resume because they are hiring provisionals and once they take the test and pass they will be permenant.

i dont think you have to be a city resident to get the job, you have to be a city resident within 90 day of getting hired.

The Governor signed the bill so now it is law, the FDNY dispatchers can live in the same areas as the FFs and Cops. This of course includes Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Looking into applying for the FDNY Fire Alarm Dispatcher job.
Anyone know how many people they are looking to hire, pay scale and schedule ?
I wonder if it is worth leaving my dispatch job in Suffolk County.
Thanks.

starting pay is just about 31,000 you can go to nyc.gov to check out the exact amount, that was from our last contract which was signed a few months ago.
each dispatcher works a rotating schedule based on 25 groups, very similar to FDNY. 2 days tours (0700-1900) --off 24 hrs --- 2 night tours (1900-0700) off 4 days, every 3rd swing you get 5 days off
after a year, or thereabouts you get your mutual privilages, and ability to use comp time if you have any. depending on what boro you go to there is plenty of OT.

Just an update to the initial post.........Does anyone still know which fire departments in either Nassau or Suffolk counties are offering full or part-time dispatching positions or dispatch/maintenance positions? I'm assuming there has to be openings somewhere since a lot of the college kids went back to school......

In Suffolk County you will need to take the Fire House Attendants test to be hired for a full-time position. Rumor has it that the next test will be given in January.

To the top.
Any places looking for p/t dispatchers? I'm just looking for a little extra cash, maybe a couple days a week. Preferably not requiring EMD. But if I have to, I'll take the course.
