Is there a new talk group? 1552 lit up today at around 12:30 with a male voice[ Gil Hanse ] call for a "Suffolk County Mission Control". There was no reply. Is something being set up for the up coming Nor'easter later this weekend? A couple of hours later I heard the call again. The call was answered by a male voice who identified the caller as a coordinator from Babylon.

It isnt new, just rarely used. It is a coordination group for Emergency Management. County OEM uses it with town OEM's. What you heard were radio checks, because the group is not used often.

Mission Control was one of the town emergency managers having fun. Its a long story. The only radios in the county that are programed with that talk group belong to the towns, and one base station located in the EOC.

That Gil Hanse is a real character. He makes himself available to the media when ever bad weather threatens the town of Babylon. His offical SUV has a forest of antennas. Not suprised he would have access to a special talk group on the Suffolk TRS.
