I don't even know where to begin, I thought my dept was in the dark ages.
-2 1/2in supply line? 1150 ft of it?NO INLINE PUMPING Are you kidding me!!!!!! -asshole civilians running over supply lines(not surprising these days) -no truck companies/ trucks operating handlines -no FAST/RIT -bring your own gear to work?? -POS engines -shitcanned pre-plan
Seems to me the m/a dept. had their shit together... I can't wait for phase II

yeah some of this stuff is unbelievable that a municipal, career fire department in a city of 100,000+ people is operating like this...
bring your own gear... off-duty firefighters responding to scene (good intent... but you end up with poor accountability, even with check-in)... poor equipment... not securing a water supply... no LDH...

I guess after reading that investigation we can all find faults in their operation. Its very sad when you hear a brother passing on, unfortunately it sometimes takes tragedy for people to wake up. I just hope departments read this investigation and see how improvements can be made. Communication was definately a major issue as well as water supply... If that store is anything like the furniture showrooms on rte 110 I could see how easy you can get lost... A place like that needs to be so preplanned and gone over.

Sprinkler system would have made a significant difference by preventing it from ever getting it to the stage of fire it was.

Suddenly, you are 100% correct. I cannot believe that a furniture store including warehouse was alloud to have a CO without a sprinkler system. I dont care who or what was grandfathered... They should not have been alloud to build any extensions without bringing the entire building up to code...

JJK is right. The one thing we do NOT want to forget is the fact that 9 brothers are gone, and their families continue to grieve. Considering thaty every call is dynamic, it is impossible to have an incident such as this go off without a hitch. I hope the families get the help they need, as they are forced to relive that tragic day.
