www.thalesliberty.comWhat do you think. There are Coordinating Agencies in the area switching to this rwadion in the next couple of months. On the fly patching, coding, programming. Both mobile and portable, and the same weight as single band radios. Lets hear from the buffs who know...

These are not, NOT for everyday F/G operations. They are a patching tool, if you will, designed for multi-agency events requiring I/O communications. I want to see what the techies know about them, or if the concept of a multi band radio is worth exploring/investing in. They are $5,000 and up.

Thales makes some awesome radios. Tough as shit. I have one at work that goes from 30Mhz-512Mhz non stop, FM or AM on any freq, PL's, field programable. Awesome radios.

At last, the most expensive HT you can buy! I like it! It's not for everyone, but I could see it in a command post unit where it could coordinate police fire and ems ops. The problem is that it just won't be used very much. If the sh*t really hit the fan, would anyone have the knowledge to use it? It's probably too late in coming, everyone has a command communications rig for thoes "end of the world senerios". Still it has a "mind is better than yours " appeal, doesn't it.

well, the point of the radio is just that. Multi-agency events that require on-the-fly interoperability. You do need someone to operate it and know what they are doing. at $5,000 and up, it is not a fireground radio. to see a local FD using them makes no sense. Local OEM's and coordinating agencies like FRES and FIRECOM should have them. I am hoping that my agency will buy at least 4-5 portables and 2-3 mobiles.

In limited numbers and in the right hands, they make sense. The obsolesce proof scanner, I think
