There is absolutely no reason/excuse for this to happen. Placing 8 FF's at risk for severe injury instead of just slowing down or better yet stopping makes no sense.
The key is despite this violent collision, all injuries were minor because ALL of the FF's were WEARING THEIR SEAT BELTS. The St Louis FD had a similar accident on the same street in 1952 that killed 3 FF's (open cab trucks & no seat belts)
Suddenlyseemore you are correct about the 1st div accident a few yrs ago.
