On Friday, January 30, 2009 at 5:34 p.m, Commack FD was dispatched to an MVA with entrapment on Jericho Turnpike at Wyandanch Boulevard. All Chiefs, Rescue 9, Engines 3, 4, 11, & 13, Quint 14 and Fire Police 8 responded. Units were advised that there were five cars involved and two people were confirmed pinned as well as one person was ejected.
First arriving units arrived to find cars all over with two drivers still trapped. Crews went to work using two jaws, two O-cutters and three combi tools to free two drivers with one in critical condition. A medivac was requested and landed at the Indian Hollow School on Kings Park Road.
Crews quickly extricated both patients. A total of five patients were transported with one being flown. Units were on scene for a while securing vehicles and taking care of fluids in the roadway.
