bloomy,
contact the islip town chiefs council, they have already setup the plan w/ the Town of Islip through empire. There are many bugs to be worked out with the plan. As you know their are 8,000,000 taxing districts on Long Island and the next hurdle will be figuring out who's insurance the district falls under.
Islip town chiefs council have really looked out for their members, I wish I lived in the TOI lol.

It was passed last year and became effective 1/17/09. If your municipality (i.e. town/village) offers their own private health insurance the current law allows them to offer it you now. If your town/village is part of NYS insurance they cannot offer it yet, until the (new) law is amended to address something in NYS civil service law, the original law only changed NYS muni law. It is on the assembly agenda but needs to cross Guv's desk and that's not likely until after the state budget is passed. This is a para-phrase of the expalnation I recieved from my NYS assemblyman and senators office. They said they'd be sending a letter to town Chief associations soon explaining current status.
