The word is the medic responder program will stop on may 30, 2009. At this time I don't know of any back up plan that is in the works. But remember, this program started before most districts had paid crews. So now it's a whole new game because most departments have paid crews. The big question will be how all the departments handle the need for ALS.

I heard that they don't need the north shore medics anymore in the town of islip because everyone is pretty much paid now and they have paid A.L.S. now....so they don't need them anymore

the 10 year contract ran up and they couldn't come to an agreement on a new one. They are much needed.

If your going to give someone money why would you hire EMT's only?. That's my pet peeve, then wait on scene for 20 minutes to call for ALS. Sorry I got off my point, here's the deal every day is different in the 3rd division, the ambulance companies have an unbelievable amount of calls. So how many people do we put on today? till what time?. Just in the last week, one of the busier ambulance companies could only muster 1 crew (paid), then they had 4 calls in the next 23 minutes. You can't plan for that.

I guess you are a PARAGOD Warthog....only a PARAGOD would say something like that (why would you hire EMT'S only)

i heard about 10 different stories from 10 different people but the common denominator i was able to find was that 2 north shore medics will be kept in the TOI untill labor day, but they will only be responding for the five ambulance companies (ci,brentwood, sayville, exchange, bayshore).
i'm not sure of the hours, i heard something like 6 hours a day and the two will overlap for 4 of them or something.

The 2 remaining medics will work 6 am - 2 pm & 10 am - 6 pm shifts so the overlap will be between 10 am - 2 pm. In addition, the agency that has the TAC ambulance for the day will also provide a TAC medic to respond to delta and echo events for all TOI agencies including the FD's. The individual VAC's are also supposed to be staffing their own ALS (whether it be in an ambulance or in a first responder) 6 am - 6 pm Monday - Friday. Should be interesting to see how this all works out.

Just wish it would have been a tad warmer this morning, i was so getting used to the warmth and glad that winter is over...I HOPE
