Last night I attended a forum at the Suffolk County Fire training academy hosted by NYS Assemblyman Marc Alessi pertaining to the bail out rope legislation.
We finally got to meet the man who wrote the actual working part of the legislation.
His name is Mr. David Ruppert from the NYS dept. of labor. This gentleman is a high ranking level member of the dept. of labor.
After listening to HIS version of events and having sat thru several classes give by Mr. Tom Wutz of the NYS office of Fire Prevention and Control I believe that we, the Fire Service, are having legislation rammed down our throats created by the NYS dept. of labor bureaucrats and not by OFPC.
Mr. Ruppert contends that he has the final say, and that OFPC while the recognized training experts in the field of firefighting as we know it in the State of New York, have their "own version of how this should be implemented".

I urge all members of this board to write, phone, e mail their state representatives and ask that this legislation be tabled and be re written by fire service people for fire service people. If the NYS Dept. of Labor cannot accept what the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and control recommends then WE HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM .......
