Has Melville changed frequencies used for toning out? I have heard several calls today and have yet to hear the tones. I hear traffic on their regular channel but no tones. I know they put in for new freqs some time ago. Did they make the switch?

Melville's set-up is as follows 470.1625/77.0 - Alert Tones 471.2875/100.0 - Main Dispatch 476.0125/88.5 - Back-up Dispatch Melville runs 2600 calls a year, the new radio set-up is to handle the increased work load

Does anyone know why they don't also announce the call on the "old" frequency? (471.2875) Is it common in Suffolk to only announce on the "tone-out" freq? Nassau common practice is to announce on both. Hicksville is a good example.

That's a very good idear. Right now the pagers scan both freqs on the "monitor" position and the mobil radios scan all 3 freqs, so its hard to ask for a third announcment! Hopfully it can be changed to one time on the new freq and once without the tone on the old freq. Oh and on 46.46 too. There are other issues with the set-up, so there maybe other changes.

The change has been made. Tones & announcment with a repeat on the "alert" channel, and a short repeat on the "primary dispatch" channel. Nick

How about simulcasting over 470.1625 and 46.46 with the tones and sign-on announcement like other departments do in Nassau and Suffolk (i.e., East Meadow, Bethpage, Brentwood, Central Islip)? Your console should be able to accomplish this Nick.

If FRES makes a formal request, the BOFC will entertain it. Unknown how they will respond. With a veteran FRES supervisor in our ranks, the pressure is there. As of now the siren activation tones are on 46.46

Don't forget about the tones that turn on and off the beacon on the top of the mono-pole, they're on 46 as well...

Really? Before I got smart and left there was a quick set of tones, kinda like a speedial on a phone that turned the eyesore beacon on and off, which went over 46. The siren, either one round or 3, went over primary. Not to be confused with the knox-box tones, which is a slower phone dialing sound that went over primary. Too many noises I tells ya!
