After the 1st of the year, they will be releasing more classes.
Although, it seems like they really cut back on refresher classes, I guess in attempt to get more people to do CME.

my card is up in January, I didn't have time to take CME's or a refresher over the summer. I'm hoping for a weekend refresher class up in the melville area. I'm pretty sure I can let my card expire and still take a refresher...

Even if you ride in Suffolk you can still take a refresher class in Nassau. I taken many refreshers in Suffolk County but my last one was in Nassau, and after that I will never take another one in Suffolk. First, Nassau offers daytime and night classes. If you cannot make the morning session, you are always welcome in the evening class and the curriculum is exactly the same. Secondly, the attitudes of the Nassau instructors is sssooooooo much better than the instructors in Suffolk. In Nassau, when it's time to take your practical, it's only one class at a time, not 3,4, or 5 classes grouped in a big room waiting for hoursto get to an open station. After twenty-something years, in my opinion, Nassau is definitely the way to go and it's what I am planning on for next year when I renew again.
Just my 2 cents!
Stay safe and enjoy the holidays!!!

yeah suffolk is definatly a tougher class all around, goes the same for refreshers and originals.... its one of those catch 22's... the harder the class the better the EMT for passing, then again the easier the class the weaker emt for passing-- to each his own in the end you still have the card

I think that is totally untrue. Nassau does seem to be a easier class overall but its not because they dont make you as good of a EMT as suffolk. In suffolk they do not make any accomodations for the students and suffolk ems does anything that they want, and make any rules that they want. in nassau they try to help you get through the program. if you need to miss a class they will get you to make it up another day, they understand if you happen to get sick or stuck working. if you arent doing as well as you should be they let you come in on days you dont have class and the instructors will help you with the material. and the first day you walk into a actual EMS academy either veeb or the fpa, you will see that nassau runs a much more professional course. you go to a actual school with class rooms and not someone firehouse where your constantly being disturbed, if you choose so. I have a whole list of reasons people should avoid suffolk ems and if you contact me i will tell you. i have taken classes in both counties and i like nassau much more, and you are more than welcomed to take a refresher in nassau without taking any additional protocol tests or anything- statewide bls protocols are great. www.nassauems.com/ and hit training, that will give you all emt classes in nassau. Good luck and i hope this was some help.

Thanks for all the info, but I think your painting with a broad brush. I took my original at suffolk community and it was a very intense class. My instructor was known to be a hard ass but that is what i wanted. I haven't rode an ambulance in years but I still remember all my protocols and I could easily do a medical and trauma assessment with my eyes closed. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed either...
