St. John’s to Conduct Emergency Drill on April 22

FDNY To Participate in Mock Training Exercise at Queens Campus
St. John’s University will participate in an Emergency Drill in cooperation with the FDNY on Saturday, April 22 on the Queens Campus. This is ONLY A DRILL and is being coordinated as part of a training exercise for both the university and the FDNY. The drill will take place from 10:30 a.m. until Noon.
“We appreciate the FDNY’s participation,” said Gerard A. McEnerney, Executive Director of Emergency Management and Assistant Vice President/Executive Director of St. John’s Staten Island Campus. “We are taking every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, administration and the university community with preventative measures like this Emergency Drill exercise.”
This joint venture will also deal with different degrees of emergencies and have volunteers participate in the exercise.
The objectives for this exercise are detailed for both St. John’s and the FDNY.
St. John’s University
Evaluate evacuation procedures
Public Safety response and coordination with first responders
Partial Activation of the Emergency Operations Center
Information – communication flow
800 Conference Call effectiveness
Facilities and Environmental Health and Safety response
FDNY
Develop familiarity and knowledge with St. John’s University property
Evaluate current Fire Department procedures in buildings
Develop working relationship with University personnel
Evaluate fire protection systems, and water resources
Evaluate potential access problems to buildings
Pinpoint possible future hazardous conditions
Set groundwork for future drills
