Open debate is healthly, we see it every day on these forums. From time to time we all have a tendency to "dig our heels into the ground" on issues we feel strongly about. On this issue I guess we just have to accept the fact that we don't all agree on the need, or relevance of audibles in the fire service, and that's O.K.. I know it will not change my pursuit in the preservation of these systems on Long Island. I hope you will all respect that as much as I respect your right to disagree. Thanks............God Bless

I agree with what LT32 said "There is no reason for towns to sound audibles for a BS alarm at night or better yet a sig 9 at 2am. Sound them for that house fire or sig 10 when you need that member or two who slept throught the pager, plectron, buff beeper, text message on cell phone and alpha beeper next to his/her head."
I also agree that there is a need for them, however they should be used in case of a major need such as a CODE RED or a SIGNAL 10. To use them for every aided case and or every type of alarm is a waste !

I'll leave you with this grumpy and LT... Without those audibles that you find so annoying, this tribute to a (LODD) fallen member wouldn't be the same...
So the only way we can honor our fallen brothers and sisters are with blowing a dam siren or horn, The true tribute is to remember the and the sacrifice they made for all of us. So you think that sounding an audible for a lodd is tribute you are demented and sad person who just likes to hear them for there own jollies.

MFDdispatcher30, No No Not you..............please refer to grumpy's post to Rob on "audibles on top of Firecom". You'll then understand. I guess grumpy was having a "senior moment" or a TIA while posting......I certainly knew who he was referring to (right grumpy poo)

you are demented and sad person who just likes to hear them for there own jollies. Give me a break Buck411.. The horns sounding out the box where the fallen member died is like as hart wrenching as the "21 gun salute" at a military funeral.. It just ads more feeling to the moment... And watch those tones when you type ( demented sad person)... I'm a senior guy here and elsewhere!...

I think we should get bells on top of every firehouse and when a call comes in the bells ring think that would be nicer and the taxpayers would be happpier to hear bells instead of the regular horns or sirens that we have now. and rob you can be the head of bell repairs in the greater nassau/suffolk area

rob you can be the head of bell repairs in the greater nassau/suffolk area Sounds good! Woodmere still has their bell from 1894 located under their 5 HP Federal on the firehouse roof... i'm all for bells but they just don't cover the area like a 5 or 7 HP Federal siren will But bells are cool.. I saw Backdraft....

Enough, this is out of hand. Im not posting an opinion on this, just locking it down. Wanna talk audibles, do it on Robs site. Its obvious he is enthusiastic and buffy with sirens. nothing wrong with that. We all know tones of other departments, all the codes and signals and follow them religiously. Nothing wrong with being passionate about what you love. Nobody is right or wrong on this one. But sirens, just like tones and big ole firetrucks are a part of our history. Rob should be entitled to share his passion for them withOUT being dragged down by a few who dont approve of it. (Not to mention, he is a moderator, have a little respect.) As for this thread, its shut down for two weeks, at which time it will be deleted.
