The taxpayers on Hemp Tpke and Division go back to 1976, Drive down Hempstead Tpke in Levittown and you can't go a block without passing a spot that burned. On the Tpke just east of the Wantagh Pkwy was Caruso's Steak House, further down is Division Ave, that was actually a supermarket at the time, look at the 4 story building across the street, the 3000 Building, that burned in 1973 or so, as well as the original St. Bernards. The old Lumber Headquarters, Prudent Chrysler, Henshaws was where Friendly's is now. The Crescent Office Building next to Nassau Mall, Franks Nursery, Island Trees School and you can finish in the parking lot of what is now Pathmark, back then it was Pergaments, there used to be a Thom McCann there in the lot, it also burned to the ground, and that is only a few of the fires there.

Jericho Building fire on Braodway a couple years ago Hickville Border _ If im not mistaken, I think this may be the bldg across from the Mini-mall on Broadway - fire was in a dumpter outside of the bldg, and was too clase to a window thus fire traveled into the bldg causing extensive damage.

I know I am going way way back here, but Syosset had one of the biggest fires in all of Nassau County back in 1965. Columbia Corrugated Paper Goods Warehouse located on Michael Drive in Syosset burned for almost a week. Mutual aid from as far away as Valley Stream was called in to handle this fire. Several FF'S were overcome by fumes and smoke and had to be transported to various hospitals.

Hicksville had a few notable jobs back in the 80's. They had the paint store on Old Country & Newbridge in which several ff's were injured when the basement flashed over. Country Carpet on Old Country Rd. (across from LIPA), Wasserman Bag factory off New South Road, and the building supply place on Broadway (where Blockbuster in the Delco Plaza is now.) They also had a string of lumber yard fires back in the late 70's as well that I remember. Also I'm surprised nobody mentioned Bay Woodcraft in Oyster Bay in the late 80's. Anyway, cool thread...keep it going.

Roslyn FD's - Roslyn Heights - A few of the old-timers in my FD told me of some huuuuge multi-story wharehouse that burned for 26 hours straight, had to have been approximately 20 years or more ago. I don't recall the exact location of where they told me but I was told it was a 1st, 5th, 8th & 9th battalion invitational. In addition to that fire i was told of a massive fire that was in Long Beach around the same time period, dunno the location but I was told that you had FD's as far as the North Shore 5/8 Battalions going down south for relief efforts. I dunno any others....ight peace out!
