What is your opinion on junior fire departments, there seems to be a negetive approach to jr FD's in Nassau County especailly some of the members on this board

I dont think there is anything negative to be a junior, but you must remember this, You are a Junior. Offense is taken when you have comments on equipment and or organizations when your not old enough to really have a comment......
You'll be the same way as us in a couple years, you'll see

See that is your problem... you are very opinionated and that is where you are getting yourself into trouble. I have to Agree with ExChief there is nothing negative about being a junior ( I went through the ranks as a junior and a junior officer.) However he is right you must remember you are a Junior and offense is taken when you have comments about organizations that you are not old enough to belong to and equipment which you are not old enough to use. And in 3 months if you become a member you will have a say. But remember this there is an old saying in the fire service (Probies are to be seen, not heard.)

The Juniors program is good for recruitment but they usually wind up thinking they are more important than they actually are. As a funny aside I used to subscribe to a Buff paging service" but gave it up when I found out they had Jr. firefighters paging jobs for them.

Give me a break. Some of the comments by senior FF's on this topic are downright embarrassing. Most of us were juniors, they ARE our future firefighters/brothers. How about teaching them the way it is, instead of hashing it out on the internet.

I have watched your posts so far and haven’t posted anything about them. Most of your posts are less the two sentences long with no real content. You are posting at a rate of 40 to 50 posts a month. Stop and think about what you are posting. We had a JR not to long ago come on here trying to impress the board. He came on here talking about how he was IC at a MVA. He posted that he was telling people were to cut the car, how to get the person out...on and on. He also had some of the same posts as you..."My department and this department and that department" stuff. This board for you should be used to learn. Don't be scared to ask questions. You will get some good honest answers back that may help you later on in your fire service career. Here is your first probie drill: (watch this) albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting.phpAs for your question I came through the JR ranks 16 years ago. I am proud to have served as a member and also as the captain of my JR company. These programs are very important to the fire service and its future. If you sit back and listen you will learn a ton for the future. Stay Safe P.S. One thing you will have to do is get thicker skinned. If you don't get picked on or joked with at the firehouse then worry. You are probably not liked. The average person does not consider firehouse life normal.

Ex-Capt, if you are referring to be, I like my posts to be quick and to the point. I dont like to drag out posts and bore people. If I can say my piece in 2 sentences, so be it. I dont know this junior in question, I was referreing to Dispatch's post of juniors have no rights or privileges, should be seen and not heard. If this junior in question is causing these types of problems, then the person in charge of him should take the appropriate steps to handle him/her. Maybe it should be handled by the chiefs. All I know, is that going out it with them on a pubic message board is not the right move for any senior FF, or an officer. If this was my dept, I'd be embarrassed.

p.s. you know where you can put that probie drill ! LOL ;D

Mjfd
You have a lot to learn
The Junior Fd is a Great organization it produces some of the finest members and officers. The best ones know when to speak up and when to keep thier mouths shut. You seem to be lacking in this department. It is great that you like to respond to other departments fires and see first hand how it is done but you do not have the knowledge to say how well or how bad the situation was handled. You come from one you the biggest Junior organizations which does some good things and some bad (in my opinion) one of the bad things (again in my opinion) is letting the Juniors take over the board during fires, that could be disasterous.
Now I also understand that you are a little confused since you live in Roslyn but you are a Junior in Mineola FD and you are going to join Manhasset co#2. This tells me that you really dont want to be the first at a fire but would like to get home early and post about how you were there, I could be wrong.
My advice to you is come on this board and ask questions that will help you learn and read about all the bullshit that is posted and stop trying to pretend you know everything about fire departments and how fires operations went or should have went. OH YEAH GROW A THICKER SKIN or you will never last in the FD. Just some friendly advice.

Gargamel Did you actually read my post? ;D I figured the part where I said: "As for your question I came through the JR ranks 16 years ago." would give away I was talking to MJFD. If something with content can be said in two sentences so be it. You are correct with that reasoning. Most of his two sentence posts don't say much …and that is if they are two sentences. Most are less then that. I don't think he has been that bad that his department needs to get involved. The last problem JR here I would have to say his department had to step in. He was taking actions on scenes he should not have been on and then posting them here to impress people. I think this JR needs more guidance then bashing personally. As for the probie drill you are excused so you can get your eyes checked. ;D Stay Safe

Just some friendly advice. what are the bad things that MJFD does? and you dont have some of that information about how i started in the JR FF program and what im doing when i become an FF. I WENT TO ROSLYN HIGHLANDS AND I GOT AN APPLICATION FOR JRS AND NO BODY CALLED ME BACK.. so i was liek fuck it if they dont care enough to call me back that is ridiculous. I joined Mineola because i thought it was a good opportunity for me and Roslyn never gave me a call back. I am joining Manhasset Lakeville becuase i like it there. Id rather join MLFD than Roslyn, i know alot of guys of there. But if you dont think id make first due to the fires, you have your opinion but i will. I dont rush home from fires to come post them online. I dont even go to 95% of the fires that i post on here. I go to Mineola calls and when i am in Manhasset i will occasionaly see whats going on. you have your facts mixed up

If you make the 1st due truck out of mlfd co#2 from willow in Roslyn one of 2 things are happening
1. you are driving like a nut and will probably hurt somebody or piss the cops off enough that they will start pulling over all fireman ( i've seen it happen) during rush hour it can take five minutes just to get to Northern Blvd and even longer getting stuck at the light at the service road and mineola ave unless of course your going to run the red light which I know you would never do right.
2. Co#2 is getting out to slow. Now I know everybody has response problems but I have alot of friends in MLFD and they are not THAT slow.
As far as Roslyn's Juniors I cant say why they did not call you back but I hear a new program just started up.
You want to know what are the bad things MJFD does I can only think of one that I know of for a fact that is letting the Juniors take over the base station.

Roslyn Highlands did not have a juniors program up and running last year, that's why you didn't get a call back. And I believe someone already told you that so you can lay off the "not caring enough" crap.

After reading all your posts I'm Sure Roslyn is just completely upset they never got you in!
Why dont you stay and join Mineola? They are used to you being a goof, Manhasset-Lakeville will have to adjust....
And also, who says your gonna get in anyway? Maybe they read this board and are sick of you too!

Im sure the members of MLFD CO.2 are reading this board, and im sure they'll just LOVE the fact that your bashing them calling them SLOW... If they dont know, rest assured they will because I just happen to work with a guy from CO.2 and I think he'll appreciate this...

alright..now that everything seems pretty calm.. give me some feedback with out the bashin
i do know sometimes i say things and post fires i havent been to but only cuz i like being involved and i am a massive BUFF but i do also know that i sometimes have a problem keeping my mouth shut when some1 starts the bashing. I would personally like the squash this whole Jr topic and i regret starting it. I dont want guys in the fire service thinking I am good for nothing or thinking that I am a "know-it-all". I might come off this way but im not, i know i have alot to learn and i am eager to join and learn. I appologize for my actions and any "bashing" on any of the members of this board

sorry bout all the consecutive posts..i forgot
LT32... JRs dont "man" the radio room anymore we only get on the rig. Too many juniors haven't been trained for that, but we sould becuase your right...it could be disasterous
|
|
|
Post by Bull66 on Feb 14, 2005 16:59:43 GMT -5
so in Mineola Juniors ride the first due rig to fires? Because i can definately see how that could be disasterous. As well as manning the board.
And on a side note... a majority of the people i know that have joined a department outside of the protection district that they live in have had trouble making the first due rig. Unless of course it is a late night alarm or they are at the fire house already. And of those same friends about half of them have had problems with traffic and time of day. So what i am saying is that if you plan on making first due to the big one without living at the fire house you might want to rethink.
