Hey, keep us out of your poor analogies please. How about when a unit is tryin to call a chief by sayin "00, 6-alpha" (for example) What the hell! Is it that hard to say the chief's entire number & their unit #? For all you know it could be 856 tryin to call 8500 when its really 566 calling 5600 LOL

In my department a lot of guys like to transmit a signal 5 and hit the light. However accordring to fordyce a signal 5 means - Activate traffic signals. Is it just my department or do any others use signal 5 for opening of the bay door too.

The Bay doors where I know open the minute the DTMF tones go out from KEG254 and stay open till the last guy leaves the firehouse and hits the close buttons. No signal 5's ever needed............. There is a flashing yellow light out front also but I have never seen it go red.. I think it's more of a heads up there is a firehouse here.......

Hey not necessarily. I hear ppl say it all the time over 46.12. Something similar to that. Other depts could be talking over 46.12 at the same time so then ppl wud get confused who's addressing who. "See ya at da big one" is a saying a lot of firemen say to other fellow firefighters regarding the next time they might see the person might be at the next fire instead of when the bell doesn't ring.

What About Units going for gas Signal (32) In my Dept. You think firecom cares when you go get fuel?
|
|
|
Post by Bull66 on Oct 19, 2005 2:00:25 GMT -5
Fire Com might care if you go for fuel during a 32 seeing as that it means resound the general alarm. Now if you go for fuel and give a 31 then they might not care.

units giving their own 13's
using the radio as a phone. i hate that.
also, "unit xxx will be responding momentarily".. it's PRESNTLY, NOT MOMENTARILY!!!

I like the chiefs that need to tell you they will be out of the dist or back in the dist...its like you may as well say "hey everyone listening come over to my house and break in if you like or better yet throw my old lady one if you want to cause I will tell you on the air when I back in town

There isn't anything inherently wrong with the "responding momentarily" statement, except the improper use of the word: "Momentarily" means "for a moment." The proper word to use would be "presently," meaning "in a moment." Again, nothing wrong with the statement itself, it just pisses me off when people misuse the English language.

How about tonight, I believe Firecom was trying to communicate with 805 1st it was unreadable, then you could understand the message but what happens: department XXX Operator #6 BLOWS THEM OFF THE AIR WITH A TIME CHECK ON 46.12 WTF? Don't tell me they couldnt hear them.. Kudos to the firecom dispatcher " 1 MORE TIME 805 YOU WERE CUT OFF FOR A TIME CHECK" Glad it wasent a mayday message!
