I scrolled all the way to the last page of Nassau Fire/EMS and i saw a poll from a while back, so i figured we could update everyones opinion
Choose which battalion you think is the busiest and name the dept in the battalion or battalion(s) is busiest

in my opinion......
First Battalion- New Hyde Park..possibly GCP? Second Battalion- Long Beach Third Battalion- Valley Stream Fourth Battalion- Lynbrook Fifth Battalion- Oyster Bay > Atlantic Steamers..Roslyn Fire Co can give them a run tho... Sixth Battalion- Merrick Seventh Battalion- close between Elmont and Hempstead but gotta go with the HUB Eight Battalion- Manhasset- Lakeville Ninth Battalion- Westbury

I think that the busiest FD with firecalls in the 8th Battalion is Manhasset-Lakeville, and not just because I'm a member there. However, the busiest FD with EMS would be Port Washington.

i think a year ago 6th had the most alarms and was 2nd or 3rd in working fires. 2nd and 7th were the leaders in jobs

in 8th battalion, Vigilant rivals Port for most EMT calls. i think that 8th is pretty busy, with manhasset (firecalls), vigilant and port (EMS, and also firecalls in Ports case, Vigilant doenst get many fire calls), Alert gets at least 3 or 4 runs a day, on average. of course, other 8th battalion depts, such as plandome, dont see much action.

any idea of how many sig 9s vigilants had last year? port had 1400 ems runs i remember there was a day a few weeks ago where port ran 15? 16? signal 9s in one day

The GN Vigilants do go out on EMS a great deal more than Fire, but I'm not sure how accurate the statement that the GN Alerts have 3 or 4 runs a day on average is? Albertson and the Willistons get their share of calls too. Plandome only gets about 150-200 runs a year.

listening to the scanner, i hear Alert get a couple of signal 8s each day. some days are slower than others, but on average i think that that sounds right

One correction co4.....No disrespect to the brothers and sisters in the dome.....but they only run between 50 and 75 calls a year if that .....mostly's automatic alarms and no EMS

i`ll throw one out there if Glen Cove FD and EMS were one dept. they would be 2nd in the county in alarms....

If you're looking strictly at runs as a department, last time I checked, Long Beach was still busiest ~ 4000+, with Port being second.
If you're talking workers, then I would think probably Hempstead.
If you're talking Fire only runs.. not really sure, I haven't seen a solid breakdown anywhere of Fire only without the EMS factored in.
Port's 2004 Stats:
Total Calls 2565 Fire 1165 EMS 1400 Average Calls Per Day 7 Average Calls Per Month 213

Yea but how many of Glen Coves Fire & EMS jobs are at the same location? It would probably reduce the number.....

I still think the BIG & RUGGED 9600 Westbury Fire Dept leads the county in 2005 w/ the most *Working Fires*

Doesn't sound like an exaggeration...Hempstead usually gets between 25 and 35 a year and it is the end of July.

as i said 960 only has 5 to 7 and sig10 has not been transmitted in many years For years, Westbury has only transmitted a 10 for major jobs like a factory or large buildings. There are a few others out there who don't call a 10 for a job. And as far as fires, Westbury has 6 workers so far, good old Hempstead was up to 16 as of the end of July. Would anyone guess that Valley Stream would be up to 10 already?
