We have the percentage system - 0-5 yrs 45% 6-10 40% and so on. Everything is a point, ex - General alarms, drill, mtg, clean-up, parade, wakes, parades, ect. Yet we still get 8 - 10 people per year who dont even come close to getting their percentage. ( even the ones who only have to make 25) Go figure....

We have to make 25% of all calls assigned to us (if your a probie then its 25%) plus half of all company mtgs, department mtgs, practices, drill, parades, funerals etc....and this based on 6 months we dont do a year.

In my Department while you are on probation you have to make 30% General Alarms after that goes to 20% up to 20yrs after that 10%.

Probation: 30% Off prob. to 10 years: 25% 10 years to 15 years: 20% 15 years to 20 years: 15% 20 years to 25 years: 10% Over 25 years: 5%
All former chiefs, while still given a monthly percentage by his company, automatically retains 100% voting percentage for the department.

In the Farmingdale Engine Co. Probation you need to make 50% of fires and drills. 2-5 years you need to make 30% of fire and drills, 6-10 years is 20 % of fires and drills 11-20 10% of fires and drills 21-25 is 10% of fires and 5% of drills. we base this 300 fire calls. do you think this is too tough to make?

Are they flexible at all with the 50 percent with the probies? Many of our probies are just out of high school (or maybe still in hs) or college and if there is a string of daytime calls when they are not around that would hurt their chances of 50...even if they make all sundays and trainings. My company bases our percentages on all calls plus meetings, details, trainings, etc. for the month. The department bases voting percentages depending on how long you are in (from 30 for probies to I think 5 or 10 for over 25 years). For LOSAP you have to make 50 points which are broken into different categories (calls, meetings, trainings, office holders, misc, etc). You can only get a total of 15 LOSAP points for all percentage, which is based on a certain percentage of the total calls for the company with the least number of runs for the year (which is usually one of the engines around 400 something...so if you are in a busier company like truck with over 800 runs its easier to make your points). But anyone that is even remotely activer should not have a problem making their points.

well we are flexible with the 50% for probies. we know its virtually impossible to make 50% of calls unless you have no life. but my main thing is the 30% for the 2-5 year members. a lot of the guys in my company have failed there percentages for the year. they all claim its too difficult to make. with familes work and all the other stuff. i was just wondering if you thought it was too tough. and i would like to see what other departments do in these situations

it depends on the person or onthe situation-i tried to argue this fact in my dept and had no such luck because while your looking to lower the %'S FOR SOMEONE WHO NEEDS IT YOU ARE ALSO LOWERING IT FOR SOMEONE TO DO LESS---AND THEIRS ALWAYS SOMEBODY THATS SAYS IF I CAN DO SO CAN YOU....THE FACT IS SOMETIMES THE %'s can really hurt somebody who can give all his time to the fd

We have seperate companies in our department but in our company we are based on a quaterly point system. For example a probie needs to make a total of 150 calls but it evenly split throughout the year. They also need to make worknights with 36 total and evenly distributed over the 4 quarters. The bottom line is that we run over 1,100 fire calls every year and there is no excuse for ANYONE to not make their quota.

Yes, 0-2 years have to make 150 fire calls. 2-10 years need 125. 10 to 20 years need 100 and the list goes on. But like I said before, that number is divided into 4 quarters and you need to make a quarter total. This just keeps guys from making all of their points in the first month and not coming around the rest of the year.
