YEAH BRYAN! THAT A BOY! HOW COME ALL THESE GUYS FROM MANHASSET KEEP POSTING INSTEAD OF GOING TO THE FIRE HOUSE AND GOING TO THE CALL? I SENSE SOME PEOPLE ARE AFRAID! These posters are not from the M-LFD. I was with my crew on TL8744 at Atlantics.

Zamboni blows up at skating rink

January 1, 2006 A Zamboni machine exploded inside a Port Washington ice skating rink yesterday afternoon, blowing out the rink's windows and damaging the roof, police said. No one was injured. The incident unfolded just before 3 p.m., when an employee at the Port Washington Skating Academy on Seaview Boulevard attempted to change the Zamboni machine's propane tank. The employee noticed that the tank had a leak and went to notify management, said Lt. Tom Barry, of the Port Washington police. While he was gone, the tank ignited and a small explosion occurred, Barry said. The building was quickly evacuated before another, larger explosion blew out a majority of the windows and damaged the roof. Four fire departments put out the blaze in under an hour, he said. Barry said the rink was open for business, but it was unclear how many people were inside before the blast. He said the incident appears to be an accident and no charges are expected.

And from the sounds of what I heard PWFD had everything under control, it was just precautionary to call Bethpage for the TRT anyway, im sure there was alot of standing around, and no offense I would rather stay in my own district while all that was going on , and maybe catch a job rather then standing around waiting at another scene. (unless I was on the FAST)... be there done that, no thank you.

Just a question...Does Syosset still have a T.R.T? I haven't seen any official dis-banment (?) notice.
Hey Tiger, know the feeling, nothing like a neighboring dept call 2 other depts before they call us for a job just about on the border of our district, happens numerous times. They have even called for multiple rigs from other depts BEFORE calling us! And there doesn;t seem to be an answer, well, atleast one they would be willing to share with us.

8Truck...I did a double take as well when I heard 8500 ask for Bethpage instead of Syosset. From what I was told Syosset disbanded their TRT and has sold their truck and equipment. I don't know how long ago though....There was a post about it over a year ago here that said they were having problems and might temporarily disband it to re-group...but I guess they didn't re-start it

Well tiger maybe if you guys did not go on the air asking if you were needed because you had a (FULL) crew. Maybe roslyn would have been called but I would have done the same thing and not called anybody from roslyn for that one reason. By the way your truck was spotted with 4 members total on the truck which we all know is not a full crew and also it was not your month. Just my 2 cents worth

Oh my god, some extra help was close by...My goodness!!! so what if it was 2 or 3 guys. I do not see anything wrong with asking if you need a hand or not if you are close by. No thanks, i have enough help here, you turn around and go home or back to whatever it was you were doing. Nah, in turn, you sit here and crtisize them for asking. You can always ask em to come in and sit in stagging and them turn em away. Heres a thought, Call M/A, you can always turn em back if not needed. Oh wait, we didn't call them, they ASKED if they could help!

Yes, they ASKED if help was needed, however if anyone knows some recent history with Roslyn RESCUE fire co. they tend to take it upon themselves to go to everybody elses alarms. not saying lending a hand is a bad thing b/c we all know its not...but when a dept has a call in control and has their m/a enroute already they will call you when needed. a side note: a little while back this same dept responded all on their own to a port washington pin job ( they drove about 5 miles in the pooring rain lights and sirens) where the victim was already enroute to the hospital... this one they did without ever picking up the radio... its the same dept that calls in mva's in their district 20-30 minutes after the pd has taken care of everything and the tow truck is already on scene. enough is enough...take care of your own district and when you are called for mutual then be ready to help.... as another side at least over the past week alone i have not heard ANY roslyn rescue vehicles responding to many alarms in roslyn's district

In defense of Roslyn...I'm pretty sure that the MVA they responded to in their van in Port Washington when they weren't called was for one of their members who was pretty heavily pinned in his car...If I knew one of my friends from my fire dept was in a serious mva in a nearby town I probably would've done the same thing

OK.... and then what happens if you get into an accident on the way to a scene that you were not even called to?? People get into accidents all the time. What if that same member was in an accident 10 towns away? Would you still get into a fire department vehicle and respond there with lights and sirens? I don't think so.

8truck A while back you wrote (Yeah, check to see that the call back goes to the Pay Phone opposite sta 2 on Mineola Ave !!!!!! ) now you are defending them rolling to other towns with out being called. Come on you of all people should know how it is running a command post and having other towns call and offer help when they are not needed there has to be a line that does not get crossed. The last thing an IC needs is to many towns clogging up the airways Now maybe they should have went to other towns than just manhasset since they were so close to aniother district but that is not our call to make. As fd0125 stated things are getting out of hand and somebody is going to get hurt. There is no clear cut answer to these problems I wish there was But I know if I get into an accident responding to a hurst tool call that the tow truck is allready there and the patients have been transported I am going to be pissed and will check into everylaw on the books until I find something to hold that person who called it in responsible. I just hope it never comes to that.
