The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Educational Center construction has started and there is alot of progress. At every monthly meeting they have been asking for help getting things ready for the opening. It's getting down to the nitty gritty and help is REALLY needed. There are fire truck parts that need cleaning and polishing, all kinds of fire fighter memorabilia that needs cleaning up. Manhasset - Lakeville donated a truck that the museum. People have been renovating it for months now, completely stripping every part and stripping it down to bare tacks. Parts are in North Bellmore getting work done on them, some are at the museum site waiting. There are a small crew working at the museum site every Saturday from around 9 AM till around noon. Everyone is more then welcome to come down and help on Saturdays. What the museum people are looking for are people that have free time during the day during the week, retired, maybe you work different shifts during the week and have some free time. The museum committee is making a major appeal for any kind of help you can give, please call the North Bellmore FD dispatcher at 409-4701 and ask for Alan Walters (not sure of spelling) phone number, tell them you would like to help out at the museum. We really need the help. Please pass the word on this. The more help we get, the better everything will look. Thank you all.

Perhaps reacing out to some of the junior programs to send all their guys up there once or two Saturdays. I'm sure they could use the help and the kids will love it.

The official address is Davis Avenue in East Garden City, their letterhead adds the line "covered by the Uniondale Fire Department." There is only a small sign on the outside door that says it's the Firefighters Museum, but it is the next building to the west of the Cradle of Aviation. There is a lot of progress as far as the building itself goes. They announced at the last meeting, they are still looking for some hands to help them get some of the restoration going. Juniors are very welcome. I am appealing once again to anyone who has some free time or if you could please bring the subject at meetings, around the firehouse, there maybe someone that is not getting the word and the museum really needs the help. The name and contact phone number are above. This museum means alot to alot of people, keeping the history of the Nassau County Fire Service alive should be important to all firefighters. There have been a group of firefighters fighting tooth and nail for over 10 years now to make this a reality. Now it's here. Let's make it work. PLEASE, do what you can to help. If you need directions or any other information, feel free to contact me on this thread. Thank you very much for your help.

Here is the news I have be dying to tell everybody. Opening day is coming. The grand opening of the Francis X. Pendl, Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center will be Sunday, June 4th at the museum. The doors will open at 10 AM, there will be a small parade in at 11 AM and the opening ceremony will take place at Noon. The idea for this day is to bring the entire family to see everything INSIDE the museum. There will be souvenirs and food available. Balloons for the kids Every fire department in the County are invited. The hope is to get the color guard from every department to come with all the flags they can. So please make a note in your calender and bring the whole family down.
