I believe roslyn runs the red alert system as do many other Nassau Depts or something similar to that where they can recieve Runs via pages alpha numerically and on a screen in headquarters....that very well could have been what he/she was talking about

Roslyn's running the Alphanumeric alerting system I wrote.
I know Rescue was looking at RedAlert for their truck rooms a while back, I don't know where they stand with that.
To my knowledge, the only Nassau Departments with any sort of MDT at this point are us (Port Washington) and Uniondale..

No offense intended Nassau, but you sure do ask an awful lot of questions.
Are you a member of the media?

Not to start a fight or argument here but, don't you think some departments are getting a little bit out of hand with the amount of money spent on chiefs vehichles, fly cars, fire police vehichles, shouldn't that money be spent on training? Im not singling out roslyn or syosset but is there really a need for a 2004 chevy tahoe fly car? Syosset has what 3 spare excurisions for fire-police. Dont get me wrong there are more departments then the 2 I mentioned I just thought of those from the top of my head. Why can't you buy a new chiefs car and if the one being replaced isnt in really bad shape, use that as the "fly car" or fire-police unit. That way everytime you replace a chiefs car, you can replace the fly car as well... This is just my 2 cents, I like toys just as much as the next guy but I think we ALL going alittle overboard now days...

Roslyn Highland's 2 cars are a 2003 yukon (5911) a 1995/6 suburban(5919), a recycled chief's vehicle. The 2003 yukon cost about half of what Ros. Rescue just spent on their new vehicle. ( gotta love the leather captain's chairs in the rear )

The result of UNSUPERVISED Fire Companies that have no Municipal Government oversight of a Fire District / Board of Fire Commissioners!

Lets see... Duplication of services by the 2 individually run fire companies (Rescue & Highlands) that service one primary area, Chief's SUV's and EMS First-Responder SUV that cost $75K+ apiece, waste of $$ drill teams, rampant buffing and chasing of calls by hot-shot members, (I can go on) all without the proper oversight of a publically elected board of fire commissioners. The two fire companies (Rescue & Highlands) should combine into 1 fire department with the oversight of a municipality fire district with a board of fire commissioners whom are elected and answerable to the public!

Mabee Tim Mahoney was right, this board needs accountabilty,so assholes who dont know what the fuck talking about would stop posting shit about other depts. There is no duplication of services, only one tech car cost $70,000 and there is only one drill team. What dept are you from Dispatch. p.s every dept has people who buff calls, most have drill teams and all have chief cars"suv,s".

So, "Dispatch", in your infinite wisdom, having commissioners would solve Ros. Rescue's "buffing" problem? And clean up all the over spending? (chuckle Hicksville, snicker Syosset, "proper oversight" my ass). However becoming 1 Dept. would save some $$ ( i.e. 2 chief's vehicles) but with a budget of just over 2 mil. a year split between the 2 companies how much are they capable of spending?

$2+ Mil is more than enough for a consolidated Roslyn. As for the rampant buffing and chasing, leadership starts in the Chief's Office with a strong oversight by a bonefied Board of Fire Commissioners. No system is perfect but Districts traditionally run better than Incorporated Fire Companies.

That's all a matter of opinion... IMHO, there are some Fire Protection Districts that run a HELL of a lot better than districts.

Hey "dispatch", how do you know what is "more than enough" for a consolidated Roslyn? Do you live there? Who are you to say what is needed? What's the budget for your dept? Who made you the financial guru on f.d. budgets?
p.s. finster, I second your post...

Dispatch, you keep talking about rampant buffing and chasing by the ros fire co's. When and where?and how does that effect you?also, are you trying to say roslyn's chiefs are not providing the proper leadership?Besides that inaccurate bullshit you posted about my district,do you know anything about the roslyn fire co,s how they opperate and the responsibilities of the chiefs and other officers, sog's, ect. What office do you hold in your fire co that you think you know so much about proper spending and how much budgets need to be?Again,WHAT CO ARE YOU FROM?I would like to know, then you can maaabeee post about a company you know something about.YOUR OWN.Dont get me wrong, stating your opinion is fine but if you are going to knock another fire co and some of its officers at least be accurate about the info you post.Just because its your opinion doesnot make it fact. And please one more question,WHAT WAS THE POINT OF YOUR INATIAL POST?

the major down-play for roslyn highlands recruitment is that their probies are exterior for 2 years i believe. i was just at the "working house fire" down on church street and the RHFC probies were just sitting in the truck
