does the US Merchant Marine Acadamy in Great Neck have its own FD? Usually, I hear Alert respond to all calls at the academy, but today at 1900hrs, I heared 830 (GN Vigilant) transmit a signal 15, in addition to their 15 at 1800. But, in the 1900hrs 15, i heard "830 on, signal 15 Merchant Marine Acadamy," so this implies that they now have a department dispatched by Vigilant. Anyone know?

I believe that all students at the merchant marine academy recieve EMT-B training. Does anyone know if the Ambulance Corp is a requirement or is it on a volunteer basis?

are you sure about the emt-b training? at the 9a i am refering to, vigilant had a driver, but no tech, so they asked for m/a from manhasset, who also could not get a tech. so, they called GN Alert (who responded with a tech in the rescue, since they do not have ambulances) and vigilant drove the bus down. If all cadets have EMT-B training, they could just take one of them in the bus, or the EMT instructor, instead of having 3 depts tone out to the same call, trying to find a technician.

that could have helped response time. it was a sprained knee, so any trained emt could have done it, probobly

USMMA has its own ambulance corps. They are using 830 dispatch to log their call times. They do not have their own FD, they use the Alerts. FYI-A large amount of cadets vollie with vigilants EMS.

Every night GN Vigilants test usmma at 1900 hrs. usmma has there own ambulance (medic 1) but will only transport midshipmen, the vigilants will transport all civilians. usmma tech will show up and treat until vigilants amb shows up for civillians. GN alerts do all fire duty, but only 1 unit is allowed to respond on the property for an alarm, security reasons.

What it is is the United States M.M.A has an EMS Squad, but are covered under Alert's fire territory, and if they need backup assistance for amublance/ems they call upon the GN Vigilant Fire Co. for that, but other wise fire calls are Alert.

I am also familiar with some of the MMA's who voulenteer down at the vigilants, what they do is they have a mutual agreement which allows them to ride and some drive the vigilant busses, but everythign is generally just toned out, and leaves from MMA for ems.

The ambulances are owned by the Vigilants, the Alerts don't have any....

Does Alert have a bus at all? or does vigilant just do all ems in great neck? nope, vigilant maintains and operates 3 ambulances. Alert has none. however, alert responds with Rescue 828 to certain EMS calls (mainly ones at schools, churches/temples, and if its called in to their emergency number and is in their fire coverage area). One of the 3 vigilant busses (8311) is stored at the Alert's annex. this is the older bus. Once, when USMMA had 2 EMS runs at once, a driver and two techs went to Alert annex to pick up 8311, even though none of them were vigilant medics.

The USMMA ambulance being toned out by 830 is not anything new. It was implemented over a year ago. The USMMA's ambulance is only used to transport their own. Vigilants are primary response to the academy for all other 9a's. If Vigilants cannot respond with an ambulance the M-LFD will be blown out for M/A and the Alerts might also be called for manpower to respond to the scene.

Their ambulance is a Wheeled Coach Ford Van Conversion that is all White and just has box lights all over the top of the conversion. There's no lightbar or anything else. On the sides of the van portion is says "USMMA" in a Navy Blue text. Very simple.
